Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency released in 2009 and was created by an unknown individual or group of people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto .
Bitcoin is best described as digital money or cash. The difference between Bitcoin and the cash or currency you are used to using, often referred to as FIAT, is that Bitcoin is decentralised and therefore has no central bank.
Transactions using Bitcoin are recorded on a ledger called a blockchain.
Bitcoins are created using a process called mining.
Bitcoins can be divided into millibitcoin (mBTC) which represents one thousandth of a bitcoin or 0.001 bitcoins, and satoshi (sat) which represents one hundred millionth of a bitcoin or 0.00000001 bitcoins.
